Cowan Railroad

Cowan Railroad Museum is located in the old Cowan Depot, a landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The museum features historic displays, relics and memorabilia, and a model railroad layout.  The property also features a rare Porter steam locomotive, a historic flatcar and caboose, and an antique diesel-electric locomotive.

The museum is only steps away from The Franklin House and is open May through October, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 to 4 and Sunday from 1 to 4.

Sewanee Music Festival

Each summer, Sewanee assembles leading conductors from across the world who are passionate about music and educating the next generation of musical leaders.

 

The Festival Director is working with our faculty snd guest conductors to develop programming that is both exciting for our participants and presentable under current COVID-19 restrictions. A full repertoire list for the Cumberland Orchestra and Sewanee Symphony will be announced in January 2021.

The Caverns

The University of the South

Sewanee: The University of the South is a premier destination in our part of the state and is only 7 miles "up the Mountain" from Cowan.

Besides the College of Arts and Sciences, the campus features the School of Theology and the School of Letters and is located on a stunningly beautiful 10,000 acre domain.

Cultural events and festivals are scheduled throughout the year, including the very popular Sewanee Summer Music Festival.

Jack Daniels Distillery

The nation's oldest registered distillery and one of Tennessee's most famous tourist attractions is less than 40 miles from Cowan!

It's worth the drive to tour the buildings and facilities and see the slow, painstaking process to make the "local product".
